ADVANCED COACHING COURSE 2009 PROGRAM OVERVIEW

This course is designed as a comprehensive coach training experience, organized around each group of students progressing together as a learning cohort. The goal of the Advanced Coaching Course is to equip professionals with a powerful coaching skill set based on the book, Parent as Coach and the Seven Ways to Coach, together with the Core Competencies from the International Coach Federation, Advanced Coaching tools based in ontological philosophies, and uncommon business tools for bringing coaching to a new market. The Family Coach Training Coaching Approach can be utilized in a variety of settings, including coaching individuals and groups, leading workshops, teaching classes, and speaking at schools and community centers. And this is just the beginning- endless educational and workplace applications exist.

Each participant is required to participate fully and powerfully in growing his or her own coaching capabilities, supporting the other students, and staking a claim in the world for the advocacy of young people, parents, and families.

Learning Outcomes:

We offer several pillars of learning: 1) Foundation, 2) Using the Enneagram Assessment Tool, 3) Basic Coaching Skills, 4) The Advanced Tool Kit and 5) Application/Business. These sections make up the core learning for this course. The learning outcomes for all students include the following:

1. FOUNDATION: PHILOSOPHY AND BACKGROUND

You will feel solid in your core coaching foundation. Your current and past professional training will be interwoven with the Coaching Foundations in the following capacities:

Personal Capacity

  • Learn to hear and use your own experience to create your "voice" of coaching
  • Stretch yourself beyond where you are to be ready for the challenges of coaching teens and parents
  • Expand compassion and love in everyday life
  • Take your personal power to a new level and learn to walk your talk
  • Obtain and maintain physical stamina and strength

Professional Capacity

  • Connect—use your coaching to powerfully connect with others
  • Expand your abilities to create self-sustaining momentum
  • Present your signature story as a professional coach for amazing impact
  • Help people see their own potential
  • Create a user friendly philosophical base “from whence we coach”

2. USING ASSESSMENT TOOLS

A review of how to use the Enneagram as one of your most powerful assessment tools with clients.  Increase your understanding of people to enhance your coaching approach. An assessment tool is not the same as a diagnostic tool and we examine this distinction.  We reference the Enneagram Institute (www.enneagraminstitue.com) and provide a list of useful Enneagram books and resources for optional self-study. We will study the Enneagram over a 4 week period.

3. BASIC COACHING SKILLS

An in-depthreview of basic coaching skills, as outlined in the 11 Core Competencies of The International Coach Federation. Whether you are an experienced coach or just getting started, we require that your basic coaching skills and competencies are reviewed, studied, and practiced on a consistent basis. It will create a foundational backbone for your coaching skill-set. This track is fast paced over 11 weeks, and designed to facilitate the various levels of expertise and skill levels that all participants bring to the course.

4. ADVANCED TOOL KIT

You will be grounded in specific, proven coaching methodologies for families, parents, teens and young adults. You will acquire new tools and programs that you'll be able to use immediately:

  • The Seven Ways to Coach, using The Parent as Coach Approach
  • Coaching teens
  • Coaching parents
  • Outcome-based coaching methodology
  • Powerful "starter" tools and templates
  • Group coaching, workshops and seminars
  • Combining coaching and teaching as compatible skills for high impact

5. APPLICATION AND BUSINESS

Your chosen application in the marketplace will be explored and you will begin to put into your business or job situation new skills and tools as they relate to coaching teens and parents. The primary objective is to help you feel competent and confident to be a working coach in the marketplace or workplace using these new tools and skills:

  • Use a powerful coaching "pitch" to educate your market about coaching for high impact results
  • Create a "Brand You" approach to your coaching work, pricing and product delivery
  • Learn to implement potent and advanced business skills to attract income
  • Design your business using the 13 Applications and Industries service business model
  • Jump start your business while the course is still in progress!

Program Logistics:

The all-virtual Advanced Coaching Course consists of multiple learning tracks encompassing ten months, all of which is directed via weekly teleclasses with the Lead Instructor.  We have prepared a diagram to give you an overview of these layered learning tracks - CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE PDF.  Your coaching manual, which you will receive approximately 2 weeks prior to your course start date, will have a week by week schedule with assignments and expectations.

1. Weekly Teleclass Track

The all-virtual course consists of 45 weekly teleclasses (each 90 minutes in length) beginning either Wednesday - January 28, 2009 OR Thursday - July 16, 2009.   Students may choose between two teleclass times each week:

11:00AM ET/NYC*    OR    9:00PM ET/NYC*

*Please note – all times and days are expressed in Eastern Time Zone/New York City/USA/North America.  Check www.timeanddate.com to convert to your time zone.

These teleclasses will be the backbone of the entire course and will cover the 5 learning outcomes detailed on page 4 & 5. There will be new information and homework each week that you will integrate into your life, your coaching and your business.

2. Self-Study Track: Downloads & CD’s

This track is used to give you CD’s and downloaded audio files for learning how to use the Parent as Coach Approach, one of your primary tools in Family Coach Training. This track will also be used to deliver samples of actual coaching sessions by Diana and/or her team that will clearly illuminate each core competency of coaching.

3. Reading Track: Nine Required Texts

You will read nine required texts for professional and personal development. One text is provided with course materials (The Parent as Coach Approach by Diana Sterling).  The eight remaining required texts must be purchased separately by the student. A full bibliography will be presented with your Welcome Packet, once your application and deposit are received by Family Coach Training. Optional titles are provided and recommended, but are not mandatory reading. Two-page, double-spaced written reviews are required for each book.

4. Personal Coaching Track

This track begins with a 90-minute session/call with your assigned Personal Coach, followed by seven additional sessions/calls at 75-minutes each, once per month. The main objective is for you to experience the Outcome-Based Coaching model as the client so that you may integrate what you've learned into your own client case studies. The first coaching call may be up to one-and-a-half hours if needed, to review your top three outcomes and finalize the plan.

You will submit a one-page synopsis of the top three outcomes you want to manifest by the end of the ten month Advanced Coaching Course. This will become the backbone for your coaching program. You will email it to your Coach and share it with your partner so he or she will be in a strong position to support you.

5. Case Studies Track: Your First Clients

You will create three case studies with real clients, consisting of 2 individual programs and one group. The individual programs require 8 hours each, and templates are supplied to you for the group coaching case study, which may be a workshop, group coaching or classes.  Clients may be parents, couples, step-parents, caregivers, or guardians of teens or kids, families with teens of any age, young adults, or teens.

6. Supervised Mentor Coaching Track

Coaching supervision is a formal arrangement for coaches to discuss their work with an experienced and ICF credentialed coach. It provides a safe and challenging environment that concentrates on what the coach is doing effectively, and assisting them to do more of those things.  Each student will have 4 supervised coaching sessions. In each session, you and your buddy coach will coach each other for 20-25 minutes each.  Your mentor coach will then offer interactive feedback for the remaining time.  Each session will be conducted as a 3-way call with two students and one mentor coach. Calls are recorded for review and presentation to the International Coach Federation.

7. Peer Support Track

Partner/Peer Support is a VITAL component to your success as a practicing coach with these new materials. It will help create and sustain uncommon momentum and help you on a day-to-day basis with your personal development, with integration of new coaching skills, your personal stated outcomes in your coaching program, and with your business/career plan.
